Making the Connection:

The UC San Diego/Taking Control of Your Diabetes MTC Continuing Medical Education Program series is offered in eight cities each year, and provides an innovative and unique opportunity to bridge the gap between patient and professional education.

Each symposium is held in tandem with a separate large-scale patient education conference. Pairing patient and professional education together creates a vital link between clinical lessons taught in the classroom and the real life patient experience.

Making the Connection: Improving Clinical Care and Adherence for Patients with Diabetes series will focus on four distinct areas of diabetes management and will integrate case presentations into the lectures in order to facilitate more active audience participation.

The four areas are:

• Psychological barriers
  to successful diabetes management
• Oral agents
  for use in patients with type 2 diabetes
• Injectable therapies
  for use in patients with type 2 diabetes
• Intensive management
  strategies for patients with type 1 diabetes
