| “Dream Big! Don’t be afraid to try something. If you
can achieve your A1C goal, you can achieve anything
in life!” Phil Southerland has made a habit of defying
the odds. When he was seven months old, he came
down with type 1 diabetes. The doctors told his mother
that the condition would likely cost him his eyesight by
the time he was 20. Those doctors should see him now.
Only 26 years old, Southerland already counts among
his achievements co-founding Team Type 1, the world’s
first professional cycling team dedicated to raising
awareness for type 1 diabetes. His long-term goals
include getting Team Type 1 a spot in the Tour de
France by 2012. |

What do TCOYD Exhibitors have to say about our Health fairs?
"What an experience to talk to so many motivated people trying to get the knowledge they need to take care of themselves."
"It was inspiring to talk to people that were so engaged in their
own health. They were not the patients we hear about from providers
that do not do anything for themselves."
"TCOYD truly sees themselves as emissaries in the fight against
diabetes. Their passion and dedication was contagious. They did an
amazing job of creating a feeling of openness amongst volunteers and
attendees so that everyone got something out of the conference."
