Diabetes World
Researchers Able to Isolate Stem Cells for Insulin Secreting Islet Cells Researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center announced Monday that they have made great strides in the search for a cure for type 1 diabetes. New findings suggest it may be possible for people with type 1 diabetes to grow their own insulin-producing cells from cells taken from men’s testicular tissue. Researchers were able to isolate stem cells, and turn them into insulin-secreting islet cells. These islet cells were then re-injected into mice with diabetes. The mice were then able to secrete insulin for up to one week.
