Researchers Able to Isolate Stem Cells for Insulin Secreting Islet Cells

Researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center announced Monday that they have made great strides in the search for a cure for type 1 diabetes. New findings suggest it may be possible for people with type 1 diabetes to grow their own insulin-producing cells from cells taken from men’s testicular tissue. Researchers were able to isolate stem cells, and turn them into insulin-secreting islet cells. These islet cells were then re-injected into mice with diabetes. The mice were then able to secrete insulin for up to one week.
