Diabetes Hands Foundation

The Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF) is a nonprofit formed in 2008, focused on connecting people touched by diabetes and raising diabetes awareness. We foster a supportive environment where people people touched by diabetes can connect with each other, hold informed discussions and share their experiences. As a result, our members find comfort in not feeling alone and together we promote a better understanding of life with diabetes.
The roots of DHF go back to 2006, when the idea of creating a social network for a higher purpose started brewing. This idea turned into TuDiabetes.com , our first online community, in March 2007. EsTuDiabetes.com , a sister community in Spanish, followed in August 2007, becoming a top global destination for people searching for support and information about diabetes in Spanish. As of July 2009, TuDiabetes nearly 10,000 members and EsTuDiabetes had nearly 4,300 members .

Among the awareness programs developed by DHF is Word In Your Hand , Drawing Diabetes , Diabetes Supplies Art and No-Sugar Added Poetry . These are programs that involve the participation of community members on the generation of diabetes awareness materials. Each program revolves around a specific theme and works as an interactive conduit that connects individuals through self-expression and creativity.

TuDiabetes and EsTuDiabetes have been featured on Regis Philbin’s Hallmark Heroes , NPR’s Diane Rehm Show , Sabado Gigante with Don Francisco , Diabetic Living magazine , El Pais (Spain) and many other media outlets and blogs .
