The technology now available for patients with type 1 diabetes has made a huge impact on diabetes management and will bridge the gap until a cure comes along. Effective use of continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and smart pens is the standard of care for T1D patients. Marrying them together to create hybrid and fully-closed loop systems is happening here and now and we’re taking a deep dive into what you need to know.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this deep dive, we will discuss the latest breakthrough technology available for patients with type 1 diabetes including:

•  Give an overview of the different devices available for people with diabetes including pumps, CGMs, hybrid closed loop systems and smart pens.
•  Compare and contrast the different insulin delivery systems and analyze what devices would be appropriate for different patients
•  Review examples of data downloads from the different devices and demonstrate how to analyze them for improved patient care

Who Can Benefit Most From This Program:

This course is designed for diabetes healthcare providers including endocrinologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, certified diabetes educators, pharmacists, registered dieticians, and other healthcare providers wanting to expand their knowledge of diabetes management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

•  Describe the different devices available and the advantages and disadvantages of each option for different patients.

–  At least 15 minutes of live Q&A for participants to ask questions about the discussion and the real-world application of the topics discussed

Accreditation

Cultural and Linguistic Competency

This activity is in compliance with California Assembly Bill 1195 which requires continuing medical education activities with patient care components to include curriculum in the subjects of cultural and linguistic competency. Cultural competency is defined as a set of integrated attitudes, knowledge, and skills that enables health care professionals or organizations to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities. Linguistic competency is defined as the ability of a physician or surgeon to provide patients who do not speak English or who have limited ability to speak English, direct communication in the patient’s primary language.
