In this episode:
- Choosing the right insulin pump and CGM
- Tubed vs. tubeless pump systems
- How lifestyle and personal preference shape technology choices
- The latest updates in automated insulin delivery systems
- Dexcom G7 10-day vs. 15-day sensors
- Abbott’s dual glucose and ketone sensor technology
- Medtronic’s newest technology developments
- Real-world conversations patients have about wearing devices
- Continuous ketone monitoring and DKA prevention
- The future of fully closed loop systems
- Why compatibility between pumps and CGMs matters
- Technology options for people with type 2 diabetes
- Where diabetes technology may be headed next
Living well with type 1 diabetes today looks meaningfully different than it did even a few years ago, and the pace of change keeps accelerating. Pumps are getting smaller and smarter, sensors are wearing longer and sensing more, and the algorithms underneath them are quietly taking over more of the daily work that used to fall entirely on the person wearing them. That kind of progress is worth paying attention to, because the most useful question is rarely “what’s the best system?” but rather “what fits the life I’m actually living right now?” The honest answer shifts as life shifts. This conversation is for anyone who’s wondered if their current setup is still the right one, anyone who’s been waiting for something newer, and anyone who just wants a grounded read on where type 1 technology is heading.

I just had to give up on MDI and went with Dash+Loop because building Loop was easier than deciding new drawer pulls in the kitchen. Hopefully my endo can figure out what else is wrong with me that made MDI not work anymore. Doctoring is hard.
Really liked the conversation with Rachel Sood, thanks for having her on the podcast. Y’all mentioned some hesitancy with the G7 15 day, I suggest mentioning that having to get replacements of a 15 day sensor means you get another 15 day sensor so its easier to build up a little safety net of spares. Also you never only have 6 sensors. Finish your supply of 10 day or G6 sensors before starting the 15 day. Spares really need to get added to the ADA SoC. I shouldn’t have to burn precious appt. minutes asking my doc for insulin > dash/5.
Congrats Steve on not hitting the mic. All good drinking games must come to an end.
…and back on MDI since all my pods got recalled.
Bummer…hopefully you can retry down the road (if you’re interested).
Ha! Thank you for your nice words. I’m practicing staying at least three inches from the mic!
I read on tcoyd regarding bruising on your shins.I have encountered this on both of my shins. My question pertains to what treatments will remove this issue.Thank you in advance for answers or solutions to resolve matter.
If you are referring to the article we did on diabetic skin conditions, seeing a dermatologist would be a good next step.
Congratulation’s #100 podcast. Thank you for the many topics addressed over the year’s. Carelessly, I just took care of the many issues dealing with T1D and had not realized there were so many alternatives for our T1D issues.
Your guest tonight had interesting approaches to offering the tech alternatives to her pts, very cool how she does her pt care.
Thanks again Dr Steve and Dr Jeremy, guys are awesome.🙏🏋️♀️👊🏼🏃♂️.
