DEBUNKING MYTHS: The Truth About Insulin Pumps for Type 2 Diabetes

This video addresses a critical gap in Type 2 diabetes care: while insulin pumps are widely accepted for Type 1 diabetes, people with type 2 actually make up 20-30% of the insulin pump market. So why aren’t all type 2s on insulin prescribed pumps? There’s a few common myths out there that we’ve all heard that can deter us from prescribing pumps for T2D—and we’re here to bust those myths!

5 Myths BUSTED in This Video!

🚫 “Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Can’t Count Carbs”
🚫  “Pumps Are Too Complex for Type 2 Diabetes
🚫  “AID Systems Won’t Benefit Patients on GLP-1”
🚫  “It’s Difficult to Prescribe Automated Delivery System for People with Type 2 diabetes”
🚫  “Fear of Type 2 patients of Losing Control of Their Blood Sugar / Fear of Hypoglycemia”

SECURE-T2D stands for “Study of Evaluating Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Automated Insulin Delivery in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes”.

Purpose: The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of using the Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System in adults with type 2 diabetes who were already using insulin.

Key Findings: The SECURE-T2D trial demonstrated that the Omnipod 5 system led to significant improvements in blood glucose control, including lower HbA1c levels, increased time in the target glucose range, and reduced hyperglycemia, without increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. Participants also reported a clinically meaningful reduction in diabetes distress

  1. This certainly didn’t give me great confidence in the system nor the “doctors” “humor”
What are the materials in the sensors… metallic and chemical, adhesives, etc? Wh as t studies have been performed for after effects in using this device? How long term in the studies, and how many subjects? Ages, sex differences?

    • Above on this page, is a link to explore the Omnipod & SECURE-T2D study for more details. As for your concern about the humor of the doctors. I did not know of the site before watching a professional program about diabetes technology. I thought the humor and jabbing of each other was unusual. Since then I realized that this is website is focused on Edutaining the diabetes community. I then “got it” and now love the presentation style. I am an RN CDCES and refer my patients here all the time. The presentations here are great at delivering valuable and normally dry information. The programs really help demonstrate that life with diabetes is challenging, can be enjoyed and lived to its fullest.
By the way, I am an insulin pump trainer and the Omnipod 5 pump is not sexist or agist. It can work for men ,women, etc. I have patients using it successfully from age 18 to 80.
